Spacing beats wattage
Most dim rooms are a layout problem.
People add brighter fittings to a room that feels dark when the real issue is too few lights, spaced too far apart, with beams too narrow to overlap. The result is pools of light on the floor and shadow everywhere else.
Getting the spacing and beam angle right is what makes a room feel evenly lit rather than merely bright.
What we do
Downlights, done properly.
- Halogen to LED replacement, reusing existing openings where possible
- New downlight installations and ceiling layouts
- Old transformers removed
- Dimmer replacement matched to the drivers
- Colour temperature selection per room
- Insulation-contact rated fittings where required
- Testing, certification and a tidy finish
Dimming
Old dimmers and new LEDs rarely get along.
Flicker, buzzing, a narrow usable range or lights that will not turn off at the bottom of the travel are all symptoms of a dimmer designed for halogen driving an LED driver.
If you want dimming, the dimmers get changed with the fittings and matched to the drivers. It is small while we are there and an annoying callback if left.

Usually not. Most homes reuse the existing openings, and where sizes differ the trim generally covers it.
Usually beam angle or spacing rather than output. Narrow beams make pools of light instead of lighting the room.
Often not. Halogen-era dimmers tend to flicker or buzz with LED drivers, so we match them at the same time.
Only if the fitting is rated for it. We use appropriately rated fittings where insulation is present.
