Diagnose, then replace
The same symptom has several causes.
No hot water at all can be the element, the circuit, the switchboard or a tank at the end of its life. Water that heats but never gets hot is usually the thermostat. Hot water running out faster than it used to can be either.
Testing tells us which. Replacing parts hopefully is how people end up paying twice.

Worth doing or not
We will tell you when a repair is throwing money at it.
On a sound tank of reasonable age, an element or thermostat replacement is well worth doing. On a cylinder near the end of its service life it buys a short extension before you replace the lot anyway.
We assess the tank while we are in there and tell you which situation you are in before doing the work, not after.
