Board or supply
Two different limits, two different jobs.
A full switchboard is a capacity problem you can often solve at the board. Consumer mains that are undersized for what the house now draws is a different one, and no amount of board work fixes it.
Working out which you have is a matter of testing rather than looking, and it is the first thing we do when a house keeps hitting its ceiling.

What forces it
Usually something new going in.
Mains upgrades rarely happen on their own. They come up when a house adds an EV charger, a second or third air conditioner, an induction cooktop, or a shed or granny flat that needs its own supply.
Because the work involves the network as well as the property, it is planned rather than same-day. We tell you what is involved before you commit to the thing that triggered it.

It needs testing rather than looking. If the board is modern and the house still hits its limit, the supply is the usual answer.
