What we look at
The point is to tell you what is obvious to a licensed electrician standing in front of your board, which is usually more than is obvious to you.
- The type of protection fitted — rewirable fuses, breakers, safety switches or RCBOs.
- Whether there is personal protection on the circuits that should have it.
- Signs of heat, scorching, moisture or corrosion inside the enclosure.
- Whether the board has capacity for what the house runs, and any spare ways.
- Whether circuits are labelled and the labelling matches reality.
What it is not
It is a visual, practical review — not a comprehensive electrical audit, not hours of testing, and not a guarantee that nothing is wrong anywhere in the house.
It also depends on reasonable access. A board behind a locked meter enclosure, or blocked by storage, is a board we cannot look at properly.
Anyone offering you a complete electrical inspection for free is describing something other than what this is.
When you get one
The scan comes with paid work. Any time we are at your place doing a job, the switchboard, lighting and smoke alarms get the once-over as part of it. It is valued at $297 and it is included.
It is not available as a standalone free appointment. That is a deliberate limit rather than a technicality — it is a value-add on a job, not a way to get a free callout.
What happens with what we find
We tell you. If something needs attention you get the options and what each would cost, and you decide what happens next — including nothing, which is a perfectly reasonable answer.
Plenty of scans turn up nothing urgent at all. That is a useful result too.
