No hot water?
It is usually the element or the thermostat.
Those two parts do most of the failing, and they look identical from the outside — no hot water at all. Which one it is changes the job and the cost.
Diagnosing it properly takes a licensed electrician and a meter, not a guess. We test before we replace anything.

When it is past it
Sometimes replacing the cylinder is the honest answer.
If the tank itself is leaking or the system is well past its service life, putting a new element in a failing cylinder is money spent twice.
We will tell you which situation you are in before you commit to either. A changeover is a bigger job, so it gets a proper quote.

No. We work on electric hot water systems. Gas hot water is a different trade and we will say so rather than take the job.
From the outside you cannot — both give you no hot water. It takes a meter and a licensed electrician to tell them apart, which is the first thing we do.
Yes. Electric hot water changeovers, including relocations where the new unit needs to sit somewhere different.
We treat it as one if you do. It is on the list of things worth calling about after hours, and that is your call to make, not ours.
We quote a fixed price before the work starts. For hot water we normally need to see the unit first, so quoting happens on site.
