One — the switchboard
Usually the biggest variable in the whole job.
A charger is one of the largest continuous loads a house will ever run. The board needs physical space for the circuit, protection modern enough to carry it, and a supply that can handle it alongside everything else.
In older Brisbane homes at least one of those three is missing, which is why a quote that never mentions your switchboard has not looked at your job.
What a quote covers
One fixed price, both halves of the job.
- Assessment of the switchboard, supply and cable route
- Supply and installation of a suitable charger
- Dedicated circuit, protection and isolation
- Load management setup where the supply calls for it
- Switchboard work where the board cannot carry it
- Trenching or conduit where the run needs it
- Testing, certification and commissioning
Two and three — the run and the supply
Distance, route, and what your supply can carry.
A garage on the other side of the wall from the board is a short job. A carport at the far end of the property, past a driveway that needs trenching, is not.
Single-phase or three-phase changes what charging rate is available, and where the supply is the constraint, load management often avoids a mains upgrade entirely — which is usually the cheaper answer.
